Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy
FAQs
-
Usually either 40 minutes in length, or up to 53 minutes.
-
At the first session, we have our intake appointment, which involves discussing your history, current symptoms, and goals for therapy.
-
Our therapy shares common methods with general psychotherapy, but our clinicians have advanced training in neurodiversity and disability affirming care. They also understand and can easily empathize with your specific concerns.
-
There are many reasons someone may benefit from counseling, such as (but not limited to):
-Learning new tools and strategies to cope through mental illness, addiction, life stressors, relationship issues, and/or other challenges.
-Adapting through life’s transitions
-Processing stressful or traumatic situations
-Improving communication to promote healthier relationships
-Learning more about one’s own needs, strengths, goals, obstacles, and resiliencies.
Therapy can provide support, encouragement, and insight to help you move in the right direction for a better tomorrow.

Your out of pocket costs can vary depending on your insurance coverage and depending on the level of the clinician. We have clinicians available at these levels:
PhD or PsyD License (Psychologist)
Master’s License (LPC, LMHC, LCSW, or other License)
Master’s Trainees (therapists who have graduated with Master’s who are still under supervision and in training may be available at reduced fees)
Estimates of out of pocket costs are available prior to intake once your insurance has been verified. You may also contact your insurer to request clarification such as:
-Mental health insurance benefit coverage availability
-Out-of-network benefits (if applicable)
-Total deductible per year and amount remaining
-Copay/co-insurance amounts for mental health therapy
-Whether prior authorization is required from your Primary Care Physician
Note: Therapist insurance credentialing can vary. Please see therapist information section for in-network insurers by clinician.
Self-pay clients have a right to a Good Faith Estimate for the total cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
-
Clinician schedules can vary. We do have evening and weekend appointments available, but it is best for you to reach out and confirm current availability with one of our clinicians.
-
Our clinicians will regularly check-in with you to ensure your goals are being met and progress is being made. If therapy is not working for you with one of our clinicians, we will work with you to find other providers, resources, or appropriately licensed therapists who are able to meet with you and might better meet your needs.
-
If you are feeling unsure in general, our clinicians would be happy to have a brief consultation to discuss if therapy might be appropriate.
-
Insurance participation varies by state, clinician, and specific plan. Please contact us so we can confirm whether an available clinician participates with your insurance.

Your information is protected under federal law. HIPAA protects your private health information and sets rules and limits on who can review and receive your protected health information. We use HIPAA-compliant software for remote video visits such as SimplePractice and Google Meet.
Confidentiality is important to having a sense of safety in therapy. Therapy requires a high degree of trust between the client and therapist and we are careful to protect your information. Prior to intake, we will provide a Notice of Privacy Practices that further details how your information is protected, how it may be disclosed, and your rights.
Please note that state law and professional ethical guidelines allow some exemptions to confidentiality and require a duty to report in certain situations. Some state laws require reporting specific risks or harms such as when the therapist reasonably suspects abuse or neglect regarding children and vulnerable adults. Additionally, an exception to confidentiality exists when required to intervene regarding a patient who has threatened a serious risk of harm to self or others.

I know it can feel like a big step to call a therapist, but we will make it easy. We’ll spend 15 minutes on a video call and will let you know how or if we can help. If we are not the right fit, we’ll do our best to connect you with appropriate resources.
